The exterior lighting at Indian Oil Bhawan, Kolkata was designed to strengthen the visual presence of the multi-storey corporate building after sunset while emphasizing its distinctive vertical architecture.
The lighting concept uses powerful vertical illumination to draw attention to the height and structural rhythm of the building. At the same time, the scheme maintains visual contrast around key façade elements and corporate signage, creating a clear and recognizable nighttime identity.
Lighting Approach
The façade lighting solution utilizes ground-level narrow-beam uplighters strategically directed along the vertical surfaces of the building.
The controlled beam distribution projects concentrated columns of light upward across multiple storeys, visually extending the illumination along the height of the structure. This approach accentuates the building's vertical proportions without requiring uniform illumination across the entire facade.
Careful use of contrast also helps maintain the prominence and readability of the corporate branding while allowing the illuminated architecture to remain the dominant visual feature.
