The lighting at Banaras Railway Station was designed to create a vibrant and welcoming nighttime environment for passengers while enhancing the architectural presence of the station.
The lighting concept brings together decorative string lighting, façade uplighting, illuminated signage, and tricolor architectural accents. The result is a lively visual composition that gives the station a distinctive identity after sunset while creating a warm sense of arrival for travelers.
Lighting Approach
High-density vertical string lights are used across key sections of the façade to create an illuminated curtain effect. This decorative layer introduces rhythm and movement to the exterior, giving the station a festive character that complements the cultural energy associated with Varanasi.
Façade uplighting further defines the architectural form of the building, while warm white illumination around the station signage ensures that the identity of the station remains clearly visible within the overall lighting composition.
Vibrant saffron, white, and green accents on the architectural pillars provide an additional visual layer, creating contrast with the warm decorative lighting and reinforcing the station's distinctive nighttime appearance.
